Dr. Lois Weis speaks at PennAHEADDr. Lois Weis, State University of New York Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Education at the University of Buffalo, spoke at PennAHEAD on April 27, 2015 on her 2014 book "Class Warfare: Class, Race, and College Admissions in Top-Tier Secondary Schools." The event was co-hosted by the Alliance for Higher Education and Democracy (AHEAD) and the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education.

Dr. Perna Speaks at the University of BuffaloPennAHEAD Executive Director Dr. Laura Perna spoke at the University of Buffalo Graduate School of Education on March 30, 2015 as part of the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series. Dr. Perna's presentation focused on promoting college access and completion and the role of public policy and institutional practice.

Higher education leaders believe that they influence institutional decisions in a number of areas, including the appointment of senior management, personnel policies, budget, and information dissemination. The area most often cited by higher education leaders as being under their sphere of influence is institutional strategy. The area cited least often is research priorities.

"Students from high-income families are considerably more likely than students from low-income families to earn a college degree... dependent students from families in the highest income quartile are now eight times more likely than dependent students from families in the lowest income quartile to earn a bachelor's degree by age 24." On Monday, January 26, 2015, the Governor-General of Australia named PennAHEAD Senior Scholar Alan Ruby to the Honours List as a Member of the Order [of Australia] AM "for significant service to international education through global reform initiatives, and the philanthropic organizations."

The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) is pleased to announce it has received a $24,998 grant from the William T. Grant Foundation. These funds will support research and collaborations at the 2015 ASHE Conference. Dr. Laura Perna, James S. Riepe Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and President of ASHE, is the Primary Investigator for the grant project. Dr. Kim Nehls, Executive Director of ASHE, serves as co-PI.
