AHEAD Executive Director Frames the Conversation at AERA Knowledge Forum
Penn AHEAD’s Laura Perna and Penn GSE’s Howard Stevenson, Vivian Gadsden, and Richard Ingersoll were among thirty-one education scholars who participated in the AERA Knowledge Forum that took place February 18-19, 2016 in Washington, DC.
The forum featured TED-like presentations (known as Ed-Talks) on three themes: 1) how people learn in today’s information and technology-rich world, 2) How can increasingly diverse schools and classrooms optimize the learning needed to navigate the world, and 3) How can policy and practice foster equitable outcomes for all students? Dr. Perna offered framing comments on “new ways to bridge research, policy, and practice” during the post-TED-talk town hall and moderated a round-table session hosted by Roberto Rodríguez, deputy assistant to the president for education, on “addressing gaps in college access and success.”
Videos of the February 18, 2016 Ed-Talks will be screened at the 2016 AERA Annual Meeting and new Ed-Talks by 19 of the scholars will be presented at five Presidential Symposia.
