College of the Canyons First Year Promise was established in 2017. The program is for incoming students who are first-time, full-time enrolled freshman at the College of the Canyons. Students must be California residents or AB 540-eligible and must be high school graduates from the William S. Hart Union High School District or neighboring school districts. The program pays all enrollment and student fees as well as provide support to incoming students-- including a week long summer boot camp and 12-15 units of courses in the fall and spring semester; $100 bookstore voucher; a free parking permit or a Santa Clarita bus pass; unlimited printing services in the ASG computer room; career and major guidance; weekly contact in the fall semester with a College of the Canyons counselor; priority enrollment for courses in education plan for the first year; and student support resources. Students must have an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), from the FAFSA or California Dream Act application, of $12,000 or less. If there is not enough students with an EFC less than $12,000, we will start taking those with an EFC of $12,000 or more. The first 26 months of the program is funded through a $750,000 grant from the California Community College State Chancellor's Office. The following 24 months, the College of the Canyons Foundation has agreed to raise $250,000 per year for 2 years.
